player + tag editor

macOS · Apple Silicon & Intel

RUN MP3 with a music library loaded: the album “Polarlicht” with seven songs, quality labels, Spotify and Apple Music links, and the player at the bottom.

Clean tags in three steps.

01

Pick a music folder

RUN MP3 reads every subfolder, groups the songs into albums and shows quality and duplicates for each song. No import, no library.

02

Tag suggestions

The tag editor looks up the correct song info online. Suggestions on the left, the file’s current song info on the right.

03

Arrow, save, done

The green arrow applies the suggestions, “Save” overwrites the tags in the file. The music itself stays untouched.

Tag editor

Suggestion on the left. Your file on the right.

Older downloads often have wrong or missing song info (ID tags). The tag editor finds the right info online and saves it to the file in one click.

  • Title, artist, album, year, genre, track number and more
  • Cover art from the web or your own image via drag & drop, saved right into the file
  • Saves tags in MP3 and M4A (including ALAC), shows FLAC tags
The tag editor: suggestions from iTunes for album, album artist, track, disc, year and genre on the left, the file’s existing, incomplete tags on the right, a green arrow in between.
Tag editor for whole albums

One album, one pass.

Change album artist, year, genre and cover art for every song on an album at once. RUN MP3 can renumber the tracks too.

  • Only what you tick gets changed.
  • Remove annoying comments from old downloads on every song at once.
  • One cover for the whole album. Found online, or your own.
The album editor for “Polarlicht”: ticked fields for album artist, year and cover, with the renumbering option below.

Everything a player needs.

Spotify. Apple Music. Or both.

One click next to any song searches for it on Spotify or Apple Music. Hide the service you don’t use.

ID tags

Wrong tags? Fixed.

Wrong title, artist, album or year? RUN MP3 finds the correct song info online and saves it in one click.

Cover art

Missing covers? Found.

Not every music file has cover art saved inside. RUN MP3 finds missing covers online and can save them right into the file.

Quality

Bitrate, format, duplicates.

Every song shows its bitrate and quality: high, medium or low. Duplicate songs are flagged so you can clean up.

Organize

Sort and filter.

Sort by artist, album, title, quality or date. Filter by format, quality or duplicates.

Mini player

Shrink it. Keep listening.

The mini player floats above all windows, with volume, next, previous and stop.

The mini player with cover, song title, volume slider and the buttons previous, pause, next, stop and max.

Your music stays on your Mac.

No account, no upload, no import. RUN MP3 works directly with your folders.

Any questions?

Does RUN MP3 cost anything?

No, the app is free with no subscription. If it saves you time, I’d love a coffee.

What does the app send over the internet?

Never your music files. For suggestions, RUN MP3 sends artist, album and song names to iTunes, Deezer and MusicBrainz.

Can anything break when saving?

The music itself stays untouched, RUN MP3 only changes the tags. Before saving, the app keeps a copy of the original, and afterwards it checks the key fields.

Which formats can I edit?

Saving tags works for MP3 and M4A, including ALAC. FLAC tags are shown but can’t be saved yet.

Free. No subscription.

.dmg · 175 MB · Apple Silicon & Intel · macOS 10.15 or later

macOS will warn you the first time

RUN MP3 is a small independent project and isn’t checked by Apple. So macOS asks once when you first open it:

  1. Open the .dmg and drag RUN MP3 into the Applications folder.
  2. Double-click RUN MP3. When the message appears, click Done, not “Move to Trash”.
  3. Open System Settings, choose Privacy & Security on the left and scroll all the way down.
  4. Next to “RUN MP3”, click Open Anyway and confirm with your password or Touch ID.

After that, RUN MP3 opens normally.

About the checksum (SHA-256)

Optional, you don’t need to enter anything when installing. The checksum is like a fingerprint of the file: if the code of your downloaded file matches this one, it’s complete and unchanged.

  1. Open Terminal: press cmd + space, type “Terminal”, press Enter.
  2. Type shasum -a 256 and a space, drag the downloaded .dmg into the window and press Enter.
  3. The code that appears must match the code above exactly.
